R+W: AI in Photography

AI allows computers to do things that would normally require true human intelligence. Instead, we can now rely on artificial intelligence to complete tasks. AI exists in so many different places that you may not even realize.AI has been used for years in digital cameras. There are quite a few different ways your digital camera may use AI technology. (such as deepai.org) offer AI Image Generation. This allows you to create images simply by typing a few words. If you have low resolution photos, software like AI Image Upscale can help to increase the resolution of your photos. This can be beneficial if you need to crop an image down, blow up an image for print, or just want a higher resolution. AI is really effectively because it can help you with a lot of things, but you can’t rely on it

  8. What is depth of field and what is the difference between shallow and good? shallow makes the background blurry and deep is all in the focus.
  9. What are drive modes and metering modes? drive mode is more of single shot while metering mode is more of an evaluated shot.
  10. What is exposure compensation? Brighten or darken your photo manually in auto/semi-auto modes.

PHOTO SIM.

Using the photo simulator, it helped me relearn how to use the camera again. It also helped me understand the aperture setting, Shutter speed, and ISO better. Learning how to reuse this can help me take a perfect photo.

Read+Write Which lens should you choose.

The article breaks down the difference between Wide-Angle and Telephoto lens. It describes what type of photography they make and also creates a list of pros and con’s for the reader to help them make the decision between the two lenses. Differences between the two are that Wide-Angle lenses make up a wide field of view making it great for landscape photography. Telephoto lenses have a narrower view; they can take better up-close pictures. If I had to pick between the two, I would pick telephoto, I feel like its fit’s my type of photography more.

Read+Write Types of Photography

This article describes 38 different niche type photography with a brief description on how to take those type of picture’s and background on the technique. My favorite types of photography in this article are Astrophotography, Pet Photography, Infrared Photography, Weather Photography and Fine Art photography. If I had to pick two to do, I would pick Pet and Astrophotography. I would love to take pet portraits and to photograph the stars.

 5 Positives of AI

  1. Massive efficiency and automation gains AI handles repetitive, time consuming, and data-heavy tasks 24/7 without fatigue, dramatically boosting productivity in businesses, healthcare diagnostics, logistics, software development, and customer service. Many organizations report significant ROI improvements and faster operations.
  2. Breakthroughs in healthcare and scientific discovery AI accelerates drug discovery, improves medical imaging analysis, enables earlier disease detection, and personalizes treatments saving lives and reducing costs in an aging global population.
  3. Enhanced decision-making and personalization AI processes vast amounts of data to spot patterns humans miss, powering better recommendations (streaming, shopping), fraud detection, traffic optimization, predictive maintenance, and hyper-personalized experiences across industries.
  4. Accessibility improvements for marginalized groups Tools like real-time captioning, image description for the visually impaired, voice synthesis for speech disabilities, and adaptive learning for neurodiverse individuals make technology and information far more inclusive.
  5. Driving innovation and new capabilities AI enables entirely new products/services (generative video, autonomous agents, advanced simulations) and helps tackle complex global challenges like climate modeling, sustainable resource management, and space exploration.

5 Negatives of AI

  1. Job displacement and economic disruption Automation continues to eliminate or transform roles in writing, coding, customer support, creative fields, and routine analysis. While new jobs emerge, the transition creates significant unemployment pain and skill mismatches in the short to medium term.
  2. Bias, fairness, and ethical problems AI systems often amplify existing societal biases present in training data, leading to discriminatory outcomes in hiring, lending, policing, and content moderation. Fixing this remains difficult and inconsistent.
  3. Privacy and surveillance risks AI thrives on massive personal data collection, fueling concerns about constant tracking, data breaches, misuse by governments/companies, and the erosion of personal privacy in everyday life.
  4. Misinformation, authenticity erosion, and mental health impacts Deepfakes, AI generated content, and hyper persuasive chatbots spread false information rapidly, undermine trust in media, polarize societies, and contribute to increased anxiety, loneliness, and even links to self-harm in vulnerable users.
  5. High environmental and energy costs Training and running frontier AI models consume enormous electricity and water (often rivaling small cities), contributing to carbon emissions and straining resources  even as AI is also used to try to solve climate issues.

Cultural R+W

What stood out to me the most is that the author explains that he created the term because traditional labels like documentary photography did not fully describe his work. He wanted a way to express photography that focuses specifically on culture and how it shapes peoples lives.

He describes cultural photography as beyond simply taking pictures of people. It involves understanding the deeper systems, traditions, beliefs and environments that influence a community. This requires time, study, and immersion rather than just observing from the outside.

Overall, the author presents cultural photography as a thoughtful and intentional practice. He emphasizes personal experience and long term engagement, showing that meaningful images come from genuine understanding rather than quick documentation.

Food photography:

  1. Bright yellow corn on the cob adds a pop of color to the meal.
  2. Grilled sausages are arranged neatly on a black plate near the top left.
  3. Small bowls of sauces like ketchup and mustard are included for dipping.
  4. Fresh herbs and greens are sprinkled around the dishes for garnish.
  5. Lemon wedges are placed nearby, ready to add extra flavor to the food.
  6. The variety of textures and colors makes the meal look very appetizing.
  7. Overall, the image gives the feeling of a delicious outdoor barbecue or family cookout.
  8. The image shows a colorful spread of freshly grilled food arranged on a wooden table.
  9. There are juicy grilled chicken breasts with clear grill marks placed in the center.
  10. Several skewers filled with pieces of meat and vegetables sit to the right side
